The Universal story
Two technicians. One standard of workmanship.
Since1968
Universal Garage Door began with Joseph Lucey and Richard Beltran. In 1968, both men were service technicians at Electronic Door Service in Culver City, where they learned the work from owner Bob Miller: repairing garage door openers and radio controls, replacing broken springs, and servicing electric gate openers.
They later covered different parts of the city under the Universal Garage Door name. Joseph worked from Beverly Hills to Long Beach; Richard served Pasadena, Glendale, La Cañada, and Tujunga. They maintained separate accounts, but shared the same principle: do the job right, and customers will remember.
Richard passed in 2012 and Joseph in 2018. Both left behind a remarkable reputation for work so dependable that customers gladly waited for an opening in their schedule.

Joe loved his father deeply, but the two did not work well together. At 21, Joe set out on his own and founded Best Garage Door in 1978. What began as his own path became a 48-year career of manufacturing and installing new doors, installing openers, and repairing garage doors, springs, and electric gate openers of every make and model.
Joe is still going strong. Some customers have been with him so long that he now repairs their children's garage door openers. That kind of trust is not built through a name—it is built through showing up, knowing the work, and standing behind it.
